"sm70- why not Duesenberg?" (sm70-whynotduesenberg)

People complain that because the Cayenne, Macan, and Panamera are things which exist, that Porsche has lost their way. However, it would appears to me that right now, among their three basic sports cars, Porsche has a range of setups and options that is unmatched by any other automaker. Mid engined, rear engines, N/A, turbocharged, hybrid, RWD, AWD, manual, automatic, coupe, convertible, targa, kitted up, stripped out, any way you want it. I say this because I was just on the website trying to figure out how I'd spec my 911, and I realized that for the first time in a while when configuring a car, I couldn't choose. No other manufacturer, it seems, offers such a wide variety of choice when it comes to sports cars. The complaint that the sedans and SUVs somehow have any negative effect whatsoever on anything is baffling to me. Why do people insist that in order to be a sports car maker, a company must make nothing else?
Anyone who is of this opinion, feel free to discuss, but this is something that bugs me so I may try to persuade you.

The 911 and the Boxster/Cayman are the only cars in the Porsche lineup that I wouldn't consider owning.

The Cayenne is pretty much the reason Porsche still exists.

I think Porsche is doing just fine. I think the 911 had lost a step recently with electric steering and no manual on the GT3. The 4 wheel steering bums me out as well. I would rather own one however than a comparable Lamborghini or Ferrari (The other two companies non-car people think of as sporty). The PDK I hear is the best in the business, the company recently reentered Le Mans, and it offers 4 of the finest sporting automobiles available today. Anyone who says Porsche is losing its way needs to remember at the end of the day the purpose of a car company is to make money

They still offer the same amount, if not more, of solid performance cars since the Cayenne first appeared. Diversification need not mean the company stops offering what theyre loved for. That said despite them being good cars most Porsches do nothing for me.

I may be talking out of school here, but Porsche is the most profitable carmaker currently, I believe. All those enthusiasts should realize that Porsche probably makes more per unit on the Cayenne, Macan - this money permits them to improve the 911 and build the other cars enthusiasts love.
My 911? AWD Targa. And people, stop ragging on the Panamera. In the right color, it's a very handsome car.

I agree. I don't care so much for the boxster, but everything else I would own. The Panamera is amazing. Period.

The Panamera, Cayenne and Macan are such interestingly different and characterful machines. The 911/Cayman/Boxster are boring in my mind (modern ones), I'd rather have something else like a Noble, Lotus, Maserati, some risotto perhaps.

that's because "car guys" are a bunch of whiny dicks who talk out their ass.
Seriously, absolutely nothing is wrong with Porsche (other than the whole "German" thing)

It is hard to make a 911. Too many indecisions

In my opinion, the Panamera is the best looking Porsche.

just wait for the redesign. If they modify the back a bit the car could be very good looking. Front already looks great.

Porsches do nothing for me, so consider it an outside, unbiased opinion. Part of the appeal of the Panamara is the drivetrain.
Front engine, TT V8.

note: in the original post, you said 'best looking". I'm not saying it's a bad car, but the early ones were kinda really ugly.

Haha, I guess I can look past the looks and appreciate the inner beauty.
The base models do look a bit bland, but the Turbo S is a very goos looking car imo.
